Dave and Jo visit us in Progreso

Thankfully, our wonderful friends from Cranbrook, Dave and Jo, got a chance to come visit us, and while we were super busy as usual with the house, they helped us make time for a little fun too!

This is one of the restaurants we like to frequent, a no name restaurant close to downtown, where a good lunch will cost you $10 Cdn or less / couple, including beer. And it's nice and clean.

We went in search of flamingoes (Jo's an avid bird watcher), and found some, but new to me were the wood storks you see below, (very prehistoric looking).  And while not shown here, we saw a beautiful roseate spoonbill, a bird coloured along the same brilliant lines as the flamingo, but different body type. Also very pretty!

And we drove out to Telchac Puerto again, the little town about 4.0 kilometers east of Progreso. Even the smallest towns here have the most beautifully decorated main squares, and this one is especially bright and cheery,

With its amazing wall art on the City Hall buildings,

full playground for the kids because of course, the town squares are a place for the locals to get together and enjoy time!

It's a wonderful concept, although you can see on this day, it was very quiet in the park!

Where'd he go?  The birds are enjoying the sea breezes.

The very messy Cormorans make a very unique, almost growling noise deep in their throat, as they guard their territory when other birds try to land on their perch.

And this would be some leftovers of their supper

Vic and Dave relaxing in the sun!  It's a hot one.

Nice for Jo and Dave to get some time together too, with their busy lifestyle! The loveseats found in many parks and public areas are great for enjoying each other's company.

Some neat sea life. A hermit crab with many years (I think?) or encrusted sea barnacles.

And a nice walk on the beach - note Vic's holding my umbrella for when the sun crests over the beach houses... I'm not often in the sun myself, but love the warmth it brings to my shade! :)

Mother Nature is threatening our beach here as well, so you'll often see sandbags and other means of trying to avoid some of the erosion.
