Here in Mexico, Carnival is a big thing once a year. And Progreso puts one on as well.
Our malecon is a beautiful way to enjoy the day, and many locals as well as Meridanos are here to partake
There is a whole amusement park set up for the children
And even the pets gets dressed up
With parade floats
and lots of dancing girls and boys
And the Senior King and Queen of the Carnival dancing their hearts out too
And check out the little one on her Daddy's shoulders, having a blast!
She couldn't quite figure out what I was about as she checked me out
And while we had a nice snack at Pelicano's Restaurant on the Malecon, and realized that they even have a beachside palapa section to their restaurant (which was unfortunately full for this afternoon!), we met some of our friends, Andre and Pam, and they stopped by to share a drink with us.
More fun and frivolity
And on the final day of Carnival (it lasts 5 days), most of Merida and Progreso have the day off. Our friends from France, Yola and Rene, came out to Progreso and we shared a meal and a look at how crazy full Progreso is today with many many Mexican families out enjoying themselves and their families
It was expected that our little town of 20,000 people would swell to 100,000 this week, and judging by the number of people on the malecon (and at the bus station when Yola and Rene were heading home), I have no doubt about that!
The beaches are gorgeous and everyone seemed to be having a great time!
We enjoyed dinner at Sol y Mar, one of our favourite restaurants in town.
