Okay, so if you want an adorable dog or two, we have lots of wonderful street dogs down here.
This one we called Bugs because she's cute as a bug's ear!
She's a very good girl, about 3 years old, and has great teeth!
She's currently expecting but we will be having her spayed at the upcoming sterilization clinic here in Progreso.
She has in fact adopted us and stays in the yard most of the time, but if we leave the yard, she'll follow us then go her own way while we're out.
Funny story though - once we had taken her in a car to go to the vet to have her checked, she seemed to forget she was a dog, and wanted to always be with us when we went.
One day, after we returned our friends' car as they are finally down here for a while!, Bugs followed us to the bus stop. But then, proceded to climb onto the bus when we did, and refused to get off!
We had to give her the big heave ho and have the bus driver drive off so Vic could jump on and leave her behind. She was heartbroken, but when we got back home a few hours later, she was waiting by our gate for us. We were so quickly forgiven.
About a week after Bugs moved onto the property, (she is NOT coming in the house!), she brought her friend, who we call Goldilocks (Goldi for short), and she has joined us as well.
Goldi is an excellent running companion and while she's still very tiny and very skinny, when I left for my run this week, she followed me the whole way (I cut it short so we only did about 6kms), in case it bothered her.
But today she came with me for almost 10kms, and so far, still seems fine.
Either of these 2 beautiful girls is available to be adopted to Canada if anyone knows of someone looking for a wonderful friend. I asked my friend Cindy how we go about doing it, and have found out. It would cost a total of about $300 Cdn to have your new dog there. This includes paying for a companion to take her to the Cancun airport, then to find someone who's willing to have either of them as their travel pet, and once there, you would have a neutered pet, with her rabies shots, and I believe a kennel (needed for the flight). A great deal and you'll be helping house an amazing and very loyal animal.
The daschund, sorry not up for adoption. Our friend Bindi had to fly home to Canada and asked us to babysit her for a few days. Due to circumstances beyond her control :(, she will be gone for about 12 days, so yes, we've had 3 dogs for a while. Busy mornings I'll tell you when we're trying to feed and water them all!
But it's amazing how all 3 of them are quite content to interact and hang out together!
