Hallowe'en Party Extraordinaire!

Hallowe'en in Progreso has several meanings, but we took in the more traditional north American adult event.  We were guests of friends from downtown Progreso who hosted a wonderful party in their home.

While Hallowe'en has come to Mexico in our dress up and go out for candies to some extent, this is really only enjoyed this way by a few of the young school kids.  On the 31st we saw a few of these classes out trick or treating to the businesses for "dulces", or candies, cookies, etc.

The more traditional, and awesome custom of the country is to celebrate November 1st and 2nd with family days.  The holiday is meant as a time to remember and pay respect to those they have lost.  Families attend the cemeteries where their loved ones are buried,  cleaning up and putting flowers on the gravesites.  They then picnic and enjoy the foods their loved ones prefered in their lifetimes, and spend time telling stories about, and remembering those they've lost.  It really is a beautiful tradition.

Here are Vic and I, swashbuckling pirate and his wench, getting the food ready for the pot luck portion (yummy) of the evening. :)

Dan and Claude joined us, so here are the men in their costumes before the party.

This is what Dan really looks like, by the way - ha!

Us again below.

Our hosts had divided their house into 4 areas, and they and three other couples decorated in the Hallowe'en spirit, very scary, including haunting  music throughout, neon lights, and all kinds of funky stuff.

Chucky had his own bedroom and bathroom, and had been a very busy, and naughty boy.
There's Chucky... can you find him?

The buffet table with its manequins, just a few of several fully decked out around the house.  Unfortunately they died before the food was served.
Below you can see such amazing treats as caramel apples (which sadly the caramel melted right off them in the heat before anyone got a chance to taste them).  Must have been the devil's doing, or was it just "hotter than hell?"

Body parts in a crypt

The roof top terrace was amazing, and as the evening wore on, most of the 50ish of us or so ended up up here to relax, cool off and enjoy the live music that was provided.  We even got a show from the Zumba girls, as they hauntingly zumba'd to Michael Jackson's Thriller ..... hahahahahahaha

Our hostess with the mostest, Diane, who makes the most amazing liquor laced cakes!

We sampled all three - scrumptuous!

It was a fun evening and a great way to catch up with many of our friends that we hadn't seen since we'd been back to Progreso yet.
